Permanent Internet Bans Proposed By EU Committee For Individuals Bypassing Age Verification Protocols
BRUSSELS — The European Commission recently introduced a new framework for digital safety standards across all member states. Furthermore, the committee proposed permanent internet bans for users who bypass age verification protocols. Commissioner Thierry Breton emphasized that these measures ensure a safer environment for minors online. Consequently, national regulators will now monitor VPN usage more strictly to prevent unauthorized access. In addition, the DG CONNECT department will oversee the implementation of these restrictive measures. However, some advocates argue that this policy could limit general digital freedom for adults. Therefore, the Digital Services Act will be updated to include these specific penalties. Residents must provide official identification to access social media platforms starting next month. Additionally, service providers must report any suspicious activity to the local authorities immediately. This initiative reflects the broader goal of maintaining strict order within the European digital landscape.
